I bought this controller for my first introduction to MIDI controllers, to test compatibility with different software, to check the processing quality of NUMARK and to mix tracks at a small party. There is software that sorts the songs in the playlist according to key and tempo and automatically blends them (e.g. dj. studio), but I wanted to try it out manually. This controller is absolutely great for that. You can easily adjust volume and tempo, manually or automatically synchronise tracks via the headphone speaker, apply effects and blend tracks. It should be taken into account that it is not an analogue mixing console, but just a digital controller for PC. This means that all mixing, EQ and effects are applied in the PC, and it goes out through the integrated DAC directly as a pre-processed signal. Thanks to this, there is virtually no noise and hum from the controls, but on the other hand, the load is transferred to the connected PC, and some laptops with passive cooling and components at the limit of HW requirements will get unpleasantly hot. Given the size and USB power, I was hoping to be able to take it with me anywhere I wanted to go, and play my headphones wherever I wanted. But here's where I hit a snag - even though the controller doesn't have its own power supply and can be powered from USB, it can't operate from just a laptop battery or powerbank. At least the connected laptop has to be plugged into an outlet, otherwise the capacitive surfaces on the jogwheels simply won't detect touch. Despite this limitation, it's still a lot of music for relatively little money, and even though I'm not that into mixing yet, I planned to keep this controller as a universal controller that I can map to control 3D software, video editor or CCTV player. In the end, though, I figured that if I'm going to have something like this lying around at home, I want more controls on it, and if I ever get into mixing again, I want to be able to make the most of the Mixxx SW, so I'll probably replace it with the Numark Mixtrack Platinum FX. This is well over my original budget, but I was absolutely amazed at the potential that a proper MIDI controller has for use in my everyday digital activities.
