I honestly don't understand the point of the MTB version. This road/trek has the hook welded on tight for approx. 65° opening, the base is exactly the same as the MTB version, the hook is maybe 0.5cm wider on the MTB version. However, even this road one is more than adequate for normal MTB, a fatbike would probably be a problem, but that's for both.
so I advise not to buy the MTB version, because in case of a failed piece (in my case 1 of 2 pieces) the hook will stick to the base and it will be impossible to hang the bike in one person. Even a good one will probably wear out in time, the MTB version just doesn't make sense.
First photo front to back defective MTB, probably ok MTB, solid road. Second photo is a comparison of hooks, MTB in the foreground, road in the back, give or take the same.
