If you have a quiet PC like me, you can hear it working. If the HDD is louder than the fans in the PC, I think it's just not quite OK, but it's part of the HDD lineup. The disc also transmitted vibrations to the table top, so I had to put it away. Fortunately, the supplied cable is one meter long. I mention the quality company at Seagate deliberately, because they have always been able to save my drives if something happened to them when I moved them and saved me considerable expense.
