The magnet is strong and reliably holds even a large phone. But this is not matched by the strength of the attachment in the CD drive. The packs will open in the drive, but if too much force is exerted, the CD or the plastic around it may burst. But if I don't pull hard enough, then the strong magnet slides the whole holder out when I remove the phone.
