I've been using optical discs since 2005 and BluRay discs for backup and "storage" of various data since 2013. For both DVD and BD I prefer the Verbatim brand - after all, in the case of BD there is nothing better available in our country anyway. The disc is always burned at the lowest possible speed, the burn is followed by a data integrity check and the disc has been stored in a dark box in normal living conditions. A time-honored method, the only change over the years is that I now use HTL media exclusively (LTH is said to be inferior in the long run, I have several older than 5 years and they show no defects). There has never been a problem, whether with DVD or BD, if the media has survived burning it is still readable today. Until 5/2021 when I ordered this 50 piece pack (CMCMAGBA5).
Such disastrous quality, it has never been here before! Out of 50 pieces in the package, about 5 pieces were not even burned (on two different drives, one of them brand new) and almost all of the burned media after a few months already show damaged and unreadable sectors. They were perfectly fine after being burned. The way I see it, after I extract the data from the damaged discs, the whole package will go to warranty - except for the discs that flew straight to the trash and the few that seem to be fine.
