I was doubtful that it would be better than my 30-year-old Technics, but playing the first few discs that I often listened to on the Technics convinced me that the sound is much better. It can fill the space in a room, has excellent instrument separation, everything is clean, and the bass is beautifully delivered. Before, I thought producers put poor quality music on CDs, but this has corrected my impression. It cleanly and richly plays discs that I thought had a flat sound. Yamaha is simply a master in the transport of digital recordings; suddenly the music has punch, life, and clarity. The cymbals ring cleanly, the bass sounds pleasant, the mids aren't muffled – it's a joy to listen to. Yamaha has completely removed my scepticism towards CD recordings and I warmly recommend this CD player to all lovers of faithfully rendered music across all frequency bands, where no detail is skimped on. I use it with an Onkyo TX 8250 stereo receiver and Polk Audio Signature S20e speakers, along with a 20-year-old but excellent 50W active Yamaha YST-SWO12 subwoofer. Yamaha has done a truly quality job. I take my hat off to the creators of this player. And finally, I must also praise Alza for delivering everything they have in stock very quickly. If something is in stock with a supplier, you have to expect some extra time, because it doesn't just depend on Alza. But whatever they have in their own warehouse, they deliver at lightning speed.
