What to Look for When Choosing TV Headphones

Connection

  • Wired headphones for TV (3.5mm jack) offer superior audio quality compared to similarly priced wireless headphones for TV. When listening, your freedom of movement is restricted by the length of the cable.
  • Wireless headphones for TV (radio frequency) use a transmitter station that usually connects to your TV through a 3.5mm jack, RCA, or optical cable (depending on the model). The station then wirelessly transmits sound to the headphones. Compared to wired headphones for TV, they provide greater freedom of movement (their range can reach 100 metres). They also have a built-in battery, which means you have to charge the headphones regularly.

When choosing wired TV headphones, make sure the cable length is at least a metre longer than the distance between your TV and the sofa or chair where you watch it from. Watching something with a cable stretched almost to breaking point does not make for a happy experience!
