Bagless Vacuum Cleaners vs. Bagged Vacuum Cleaners—Which Is Best for Me?

You may have arrived at the precipice, where you must opt for a bagless vacuum cleaner or a device that requires a single or multi-use bag. Which way will you go?

Bagless vacuum cleaners

Bagless vacuum cleaners work by sucking dirt into a collection container or into water. For allergy sufferers, asthmatics or children, we definitely recommend water vacuum cleaners, which are much more hygienic. What is the difference between cyclone and wet vacuum cleaners and what are the general advantages of bagless vacuum cleaners?

Cyclonic vacuum cleaners are classic vacuum cleaners that work on the principle of air rotation in the container, which uses a centrifugal force to release even the smallest particles. Unfortunately, cyclonic vacuum cleaners are not particularly hygienic.
Wet vacuum cleaners collect dirt in a tank containing water, where all the dirt dissolves almost immediately. When the tank is full, you just pour the dirt out. The drawbacks are lower suction power and the need to empty the tank more often.

Bagged vacuum cleaners

Bagged vacuum cleaners are less environmentally friendly. Disposable bags are the most hygienic solution because they also serve as filters, plus you are not in contact with dust. Multi-use bags are not so ideal anymore, because you come into contact with dirt when emptying them, and they lose quality with repeated use.

What Volume Vacuum Cleaner Bag or Container Do I Need?

The volume of the vacuum cleaner collection container is quite different for each vacuum. In general, a larger volume allows vacuuming without interruption for emptying the container or changing the bag. However, choose the volume of the bag not only according to the size of the room but also according to the level of normal soiling of the carpet or floor and the number of household members.

Bagged vacuum cleaners have a larger volume. Use a 2-2.5l bag for homes up to 50m² and a 3-4l bag for up to 100m².
As you empty them after each use, bagless vacuum cleaners can do the job with a 1.2-2 litre container.

Suction Power and Power Consumption—Two Important Vacuum Cleaner Parameters

If you're looking for a powerful vacuum, start by looking at parameters such as suction power and wattage.

Vacuum cleaner wattage can be as high as 2400W and indicates how much electricity the vacuum cleaner consumes. Higher power means higher consumption but also better performance.
Suction power is about 20-35% of the power input and ranges between 600 and 2500W.

Get a Sufficiently Long Vacuum Cable to Ensures Comfortable Cleaning

To make cleaning with a vacuum cleaner as comfortable as possible, think about a sufficiently long power cable. If the cable is too short, you will be forever disconnecting the plug and searching for a nearby socket. Power cables vary from 1.5 to 12 metres in length. Moreover, pay attention to the action radius, which indicates the vacuum cleaner's range from the socket. It differs from the length as it includes the body and tube of the vacuum cleaner. You can find radiuses from 2 to 15 metres.

Weight is also important for comfortable vacuuming and depends on the design. Compact vacuum cleaners can weigh as little as 0.5kg, whereas industrial can be up to 15kg.

The Vacuum Energy Label Contains the Most Important Information

When choosing a vacuum cleaner, you can see all of the most important information on the energy label, which is located on the vacuum cleaner.

Energy class indicates the ratio of vacuuming efficiency to power consumption. Classes A (A+, A++ and A+++) to G are distinguished, with class A being among the most economical. These days, you don't often find vacuum cleaners with low classes.
Annual energy consumption is measured in kilowatt-hours per year and is normally between 16 and 40kWh. This gives you an idea of how much electricity you will use when vacuum cleaning each year. Sometimes it pays to invest in a more economical helper as you will get your money back as time goes by.
Dust reemission indicates how much air escapes from your vacuum back into the air. The quality of filtration is indicated by classes A to G—the most efficient vacuum cleaners in class A successfully filter 99.8% of dust.
Dust pick-up on hard and carpeted floors is one of the most important parameters as it directly influences the vacuuming result. Again, a distinction is made between classes from A to G. Dust pick-up from carpets normally has a lower class than hard floor pick-up.

The Bag works great as a first filter to prevent dirt from getting into the engine.
The inlet filter also protects the vacuum motor and should be replaced each time you fit a new bag.
The output filter is the most important. It makes sure that dirt does not escape back into the room.
- Vacuum cleaners with HEPA filters are the most widely used and sophisticated. The higher the number in the filter name, the better. EPA filters are also highly effective.

Charging Cordless Vacuum

A cordless vacuum has a battery that needs to be charged before use. A full charge allows you to use the appliance for a length of time without the need to plug it in. Charging takes between 1 and 16 hours depending on the model. Operating time varies from 10 to 250 minutes.

If you opt for a cordless vacuum cleaner, it's a good idea to get a backup battery, so you never run out of power.
