Yes. Hoverboards are actually relatively easy to control - they take only a few minutes to learn to use. The built-in balancing system monitors your balance, while you control the acceleration, braking and changes of direction.
Unlike Segways, hoverboards don't have handlebars, and so they are controlled entirely by tilting your feet. Gently tilting the board forwards will cause it to accelerate, while tilting it backwards will slow it down. To change direction, simply tilt one foot more than the other.
Hoverboards are suitable for fans of modern technology and those who want to travel in style. The only category for which they are not recommended is small children up to 25 kg, as they are considered too light for the sensors to work effectively.
Built-in gyroboard batteries generally have a range of 10-15 km. The actual range may vary depending on the weight of the rider and the type of terrain. The range givem by manufacturers is usually calculated for a 80 kg rider on a horizontal path.
In addition to two-wheeled hoverboards, there are Segways, which feature a set of handle bars for greater stability. By attaching a special seat and handle system, regular hoverboards can be converted into a go-kart-style vehicle known as a 'hovercart'.
A gyroboard is another name for a hoverboard, a one or two-wheeled transportation device with a sophisticated stabilisation system and buit-in motor. Motion is controlled by special sensors that detect the rider's tilt.
Segways are electronic transportation devices that function using a stabilising system and sensors that detect the rider's tilt. For greater stability, they are fitted with handlebars.
Glossary
Type
Standard gyroboards – have a low profile and are suitable for flat and smooth surfaces, such as cycle paths, halls and offices. They weigh approx. 12 kg and are highly portable. They have a maximum speed of about 10 km/h and a range of 10 km.
Offroad gyroboards – feature a higher profile and larger wheels with rugged construction, allowing them to be used offroad. They have a max. speed of around 15 km/h and a range of up to 20 km.
Premium gyroboards – a combination of both the above-mentioned types, premium models are designed for experienced users. Compared with standard gyroboards, they have a more powerful motor with a longer-range, but they are more compact than offroad gyroboards.
