What is a Cross-cut Shredder?

Cross-cut shredders are equipped with two blades that cut the paper against each other. The result is paper chopped into small pieces, which corresponds to a high degree of document classification, perfect for destroying highly-sensitive documents. If you need a shredder for less sensitive documents,  a strip-cut shredder is sufficiant.

What is a Strip-cut Shredder?

A strip-cut shredder is pretty self-explaining; it cuts paper into strips. The advantage is that the paper is shredded quickly, but the degree of confidentiality of the shredded pieces is rather low. There is a possibility for the strips to be put back together, so don't shred anything too important here. For top-secret papers, use a cross-cut shredder that cuts the paper to smaller pieces where the level of security is higher.

DIN Classification

The DIN 66399 classification system defines the maximum particle size of shredded material for a given security level. The higher the classification degree, the smaller the strips or particles of shredded material.

Type of Shredder

There are two types of shredders available - automatic and manual. Automatic shredders are faster and less strenuous for the operator. On the other hand, they need electricity and are more expensive to operate.

Shredding Rate

The shredding rate indicates how long the shredder needs to process the amount of paper that is being feed into it.

Waste Volume

The volume of the basket means the amount of shredded material it can hold before it becomes full. We recommend choosing a larger basket so you do not have to change it too often.

Maximum Shredding Capacity

This can also be referred to in the number of sheets and it's an indication of how much material can be shredded at the same time.
