The Huawei Watch 3 smart watch comes with a size of 46.2 × 46.2 mm, a thickness of 12.15 mm and a significant weight of 54 grams. Materials are also luxurious, and while the Huawei Watch 3 forms a stainless steel body along with a fluoroelastomer, leather or metal strap, the Huawei Watch 3 Pro reaches for a titanium construction with a leather or titanium strap. One of the biggest surprises, however, is the present crown with a haptic response, which seems to have fallen out of sight of the crown at Apple Watch. This is probably the best current control, and in addition to pressing, rotation is also possible to roll up the content or control, for example, volume.

As expected, we saw a top-notch display with a slightly larger 1.43-inch diagonal and a famous finesse exactly corresponding to the previous generation (326 PPI). Of course, there is a rounded glass screen, AMOLED panel with breathtaking colors and true black, or an ambient light sensor for automatic brightness control.

Although we have “only“ 30 designs pre-installed directly in the watch, more than 1000 other dials await us in the Huawei Watch Strore, including animated pieces. According to the first examples, it seems that it is possible to interact directly with the dials, which is an excellent feature currently available only on Apple Watch. We can also create our own moving looks using our own few seconds of video from the phone. However, only a limited offer of such dials is prepared for iPhone owners.

The arrival of HarmonyOS and limited battery life

Huawei Watch 3 and Huawei Watch 3 Pro are the first smart watches on which we will try out the long-awaited HarmonyOS operating system. At the same time, it will also arrive on smartphones, TVs and other devices, while Huawei cared about the perfect interconnection of all these products. There is also a voice assistant Celia, who will allow control of not only the watch, but also connected devices and will also answer all our questions.

HarmonyOS brings a brand new environment, but retains the original look of individual applications. A significant innovation is a clear list of applications that are arranged in a grid. The similarity with the Apple Watch menu is more than obvious, but this step still means overcoming most competing menus, which are often unnecessarily complicated. However, grid sorting means not using the space between the icons, and Apple is still a bit ahead. Of course, the number of applications is not finite and at any time we can visit Huawei AppGallery, where a number of applications with a diverse focus await us, whether it is music, fitness, travel or anything else.

However, HarmonyOS also had a negative effect on battery life. While previous generations promised up to 14 days of normal operation, the Huawei Watch 3 refers to just 3 days of standard operation or 14 days in power save mode, which also allows for a number of features. The larger Huawei Watch 3 Pro, on the other hand, will offer 5 days of endurance or 21 days in economy mode. But we have to be careful about using it with iPhones, because with them we surprisingly achieve only half the stated endurance. The more frequent need for charging is not the result of using eSIM, as even without it we will not get more than 1 extra day. On the contrary, what is pleasing is the presence of wireless charging, which also allows reverse charging from a smartphone.

eSIM for stand-alone calling and Internet access

One of the biggest surprises is the presence of eSIM, which allows you to connect to the mobile network using the same phone number as on your smartphone. Huawei Watch 3 thus becomes a completely independent device on which we can handle calls and SMS, while there is also a connection to the mobile Internet. It makes available an endless amount of music, a store of applications and much more, all without having to have a phone within reach. However, we can also communicate through the MeeTime service, which enables calls and video conferencing across Huawei devices.

However, there is much more to the function, whether it is an alarm clock, stopwatch, calendar or camera control on the phone, where a live preview is to be available on Huawei phones. An original novelty is the control of gestures, where, for example, by clenching our fists we can receive an incoming call. Of course, there are also notifications for all events, calls, SMS or messages from applications. NFC is also to be present, but the commissioning of contactless payments in the Czech Republic remains unlikely. Bluetooth arrived in a new and still relatively rare version 5.2 on the market, to which was also added Wi-Fi operating in the 2.4 GHz band.

Sport, health and safety. Right on your wrist

Huawei Watch 3 records the number of steps, calories burned and all other activity. In addition, there are over 100 sports modes, six of which are detected and activated completely automatically. Thanks to the waterproofness of up to five atmospheres, swimming is not a problem either, while outside we will use four positioning systems, namely GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and Beidou.

The Huawei Watch 3 and Watch 3 Pro smart watches can easily handle health functions as well. They are equipped with an improved TruSeen 4.5 heart rate monitoring system, which uses an innovative system of LEDs and photodiodes to obtain even more accurate data. There can also be a measurement of blood oxygenation (SpO2), which also works at low temperatures and at higher altitudes. We also get an overview of stress (stress on the body), sleep, blood glucose and, thanks to a new temperature sensor, even above body temperature.

Then life-saving can be a fall detection function that immediately alerts you to predetermined contacts. But we can also call for help ourselves, just press the top button five times. Thanks to the presence of eSIM, we are not dependent on a mobile phone and the protection is literally continuous. However, if you do not use eSIM, it is necessary to have a smartphone within range.

Huawei Watch 3 and Watch 3 Pro - variants, availability and price

The Huawei Watch 3 smart watch arrives on store shelves in three attractive variants, called Active, Classic and Elite. The differences can be found in the different appearance and other materials, while the price tag remained at the same 2600 Chinese yuan, in terms of about 8500 CZK. Huawei Watch 3 Pro, on the other hand, will offer a classic or elite edition, but we have to count on a higher price of 3,300 yuan, ie about 10,800 CZK.

Huawei is obviously confident here and is not afraid to use a significantly higher price tag than it was in previous generations. It is not clear at this time exactly when the sale itself will start with us. But we could look forward to the second half of June. It' s a pity only the worse endurance and significantly higher price tags, which for some interested parties can already be an insurmountable obstacle.
