The essential condition, if you want to use the card fully, is enough pcie lines and especially support for PCIe bifurcation function from the motherboard and CPU in x4x4x4x4 mode! Most mainstream boards and cpu bifurcation can't do bifurcation at all or only x8x8 or x4x4x8 modes - this means that in this case the system will only see 2 or 3 mounted disks. Also be careful whether e.g. x8x8 is really about splitting the lines within one physical slot and not between two slots like SLI/Crossfire. You also need to check if the intended pcie slot to be fitted is really electrically x16, again in mainstream this is usually only the primary slot for the GPU. In the x4 or x8 slots, the fitted drives will not only work slower as e.g. GPU, but only one or, again if the slot can bifurcation, two positions will work. A card that would be able to access multiple drives even without pcie bifurcation support, or even if the slot will have fewer lines than the mounted drives together, would have to contain at least some pcie switch chip or directly M.2 controller and its normal price tag will be at least a few thousand. In my case, used in an 8 year old Supermicro server board with no problems, only needed to update the bios.
Support for 22110 length drives in all slots
Decent cooling even with the fan turned off if there is at least some draft in the case
Disc support pads can be easily removed if they interfere with double-sided discs
The fan can only be switched off/on and is quite noisy when switched on
Required support from the motherboard and CPU - expected given the price!
The radiator could at least have some finning for better cooling with the fan off
