How to choose a sandwich maker?

Power consumption

The general rule of the thumb is that the more powerful the appliance, the faster you can make your sandwiches. More power means the hotplates will heat up more quickly, resulting in faster sandwich preparation.

Size

The size of the sandwich maker determines how many square toasts you can make simultaneously.

1 hotplate is ideal if you are making a toast for yourself only.
2 hotplates represent the most common arrangement.
Families and roommates who want to prepare four toasts at the same time will appreciate sandwich makers with 4 hotplates.

Hotplates

When choosing a sandwich maker, also consider if the hotplates are removable or not. Interchangeable hotplates means you can swap them around when making different types of food. You can find special plates for pancakes, wafers, or panini.

Hotplate material

The hotplate material should be highly durable in order to handle the high temperatures when baking food.

Teflon is the most common coating material for sandwich maker hotplates. It boasts excellent non-stick properties and long service life, as it does not peel off.
Non-stick coating ensures that the food doesn't burn and the sandwich maker is generally easier to clean.

A light indicator is also a great thing to have, as it signals the appliance is ready to bake your toasts. When the green light blinks on, you know you are good to go.
