Smart toothbrushes are suitable for people who take their dental hygiene and gum care seriously. They actively monitor the entire cleaning process and will notify you of any shortcomings through an app on your smartphone.

How does a smart toothbrush work?

The body of the brush has built-in sensors that monitor the brushing process and make sure you do it properly. They actively notify you of how long you've been brushing, whether you apply excessive pressure, or when it's time to move to another part of your mouth. The cleaning data is then sent to your phone via Bluetooth. A special app for Android and iOS works with this data and can help you to improve your cleaning technique.

Is a smart toothbrush suitable for children?

Yes, there are also children's smart toothbrushes designed specifically to meet the needs of young teeth. The app uses fun tricks to make tooth brushing more entertaining and at the same time  teaches the child to brush their teeth properly. There are also special interactive attachments that detect the hand motion during cleaning. The motion data is transferred to a tablet or mobile phone, where the app uses it to control a game. You can connect this toothbrush attachment to a regular or electric brush.

Types of smart toothbrushes

  • Sonic (vibration) - a brush with an elongated head that makes its bristle vibrate with sonic vibrations. It cleans the interdental spaces and the gums very well. Suitable for users with sensitive gums. Generally not as effective as oscillating-rotating toothbrushes.
  • Oscillating-rotating - provide more through and effective cleaning compared to sonic toothbrushes. They use 3 different movements for cleaning (3D cleaning technology): rotation (semicircular rotation of the brush head), oscillation (oscillation from side to side) and pulsation. These toothbrushes tend to be harsher on the gums, so they are not recommended for people with sensitive gums and those prone to periodontitis.
