Exercise Bikes

Basic fitness equipment suitable for both households and gyms. See below for some tips how to choose the right one for you.

Types

Manually operated

  • You set the resistance yourself using a dial. These bikes are cheaper, but they also offer fewer features.

Ergometer

  • Continuously adapts the resistance depending on the user’s current heart rate and maintains it within the set range, which leads to more efficient fat loss.
  • Changes the resistance settings dynamically according to the preset route profile, which can be viewed on the display. The user can also set the resistance himself.
  • Easy to use and offers a wide range of settings.

Construction and weight capacity

  • The weight capacity should be at least 20% higher than the weight of the user. Less than that can lead to rapid wear and the machine being unstable.

Resistance control

  • Magnetic brake
    • The resistance is regulated by engaging a mechanical brake with the flywheel. The most widely used type.
    • Its pros include smooth and quiet operation, highly adjustable resistance, and high durability.
  • Induction brake
    • The resistance is adjusted by a computer, which controls an electromagnet coil.
    • The pros include the option to set very high resistance, measurement accuracy, and minimal failure rate. The drawback is its fairly high purchase price.

Accessories

  • The display varies by its design and range of features. The more expensive models allow you to connect to a computer or tablet.
  • Some models can monitor heart rate - sensors are integrated in the handlebars?.
  • Wheels help a lot if you need to move the bike somewhere else.
