Neschopnosť priniesť niečo nové a originálne bola v minulom diele s názvom Payback korunovaná vyložene stupídnym príbehom a hrateľnosťou preplnenou mikrotransakciami. Need for Speed: Heat ale už z počiatku vyzeralo veľmi nádejne a výsledok nakoniec nie je úplná katastrofa, avšak ani tentoraz autori z Ghost Games do cieľa víťazoslávne nedošli.
