The Island

Each narrator is also the hero of his own story... A book you wouldn't expect from the award-winning author of Jesus, Sentimental Novel or Mona.

The merchant Izar is reunited with Princess Núrit on the Island after many years, but this time instead of playing love games, they are enveloped in the magic of old stories. What has the charismatic businessman been through during their separation? How did the seductive beauty fare in her role as ruler in the meantime? And under what circumstances did their paths once diverge? Perhaps Izar's travel diary, which is as engaging as an exotic adventure novel and mixes Christian tradition with oriental sensuality, could offer answers. Such questions, however, are not guaranteed to bother the third unheroic hero of this story, the son of a local shit-head who, along with his ridiculed trade, has also inherited loneliness and poverty, yet bravely fights his fate and the prejudices of the other inhabitants of the Island.

In this work, the award-winning author presents herself as a worshipper of colourful stories from the olden days.
