This Canon EF 70-300 mm f4-5.6 IS USM lens boasts advanced technology of a three-stop image stabiliser. The Canon EF 70-300 mm f/4-5, 6 IS USM lens features a 3-stop Image Stabiliser (IS) from Canon. The Image Stabiliser is ideal for handheld shooting. It allows photographers to use shutter speeds up to 3 stops slower without causing a noticeable increase in image blur. To ensure stable panning the IS Mode 2 corrects only unwanted vertical shaking by turning off the IS in the horizontal direction. The Image Stabiliser (IS) is ideal for low light conditions, fast action scenes and shooting from moving vehicles. If the camera is mounted on a tripod, the image stabiliser automatically turns off.

The Super UD (ultra-low dispersion) corrects chromatic aberration and achieves high resolution and contrast throughout the zoom range without losing details at the edges of the image. The lens was manufactured with using only lead-free glass. The optimised Super Spectra lens coating and the lens shaping suppress flare and ghosting. Especially digital cameras are more prone to flare and ghosting due to the reflection of the image sensor. The coating also contributes to ensuring true colour balance and sharp images with high contrast.

The circular aperture helps to create the attractive and uniform bokeh while allowing an object to excel using a wide aperture. The USM micromotor uses ultrasonic frequency vibrations to drive the extremely fast and near-silent autofocus. Its good torque-stop system prevents overlap. The high-speed processor and optimised autofocus algorithm contribute to the fast auto-focus, which is literally faster than the human eye.
