With the new MacBook, we have managed to do the impossible - to engineer a full-sized experience into the most compact Mac laptop ever. It meant re-imagining every element so that it was not only lighter and thinner but also better. The result is not just a new laptop. The result is the future of the laptop.
We are convinced that a comfortable full-size keyboard is essential for a great laptop experience. But to get such a keyboard into the sleek new MacBook, we had to rethink the whole technical setup and design. For the new keyboard, we redesigned each key and its underlying mechanism. It is now not only much thinner but also more comfortable and responsive when typing. You get more key stability than ever before.
The moment you open the new MacBook, its gorgeous 12-inch Retina display with edge-to-edge glass brings everything into focus. Every photo leaps off the screen in rich, vibrant detail. Over 3 million pixels render each letter with crystal clarity. It all comes to life and light on the thinnest, most energy-efficient Retina display ever on a Mac. It has been meticulously honed to deliver a bold visual experience within an impossibly minimal design.
The new MacBook comes with a completely new concept for the trackpad. The Force Touch trackpad is engineered to deliver a responsive, uniform click no matter where you press the surface. The force sensors underneath detect how much pressure you’re applying and give you new ways to interact with your Mac. You can now use a Force click to enable new capabilities, like quickly looking up the definition of a word or previewing a file just by clicking and continuing to press on the trackpad. The trackpad also responds to haptic feedback - a tactile vibration from the trackpad that adds the sense of touch to what you see on the screen. These advanced capabilities work in addition to all the intuitive Multi-Touch gestures Mac users love. Without lifting a finger, you'll be more in touch than ever before.
The new MacBook fits perfectly into our increasingly wireless world. With Apple's software that takes full advantage of the latest WiFi and Bluetooth wireless technologies, everything that you do with your laptop can now be done over the air. No matter where you are, you can connect to the web, transfer files, organise photos or listen to music. You can do this and much more - without being tied down to wires.
The most efficient way to charge your laptop is by connecting the charger to the port. And if we had to have such a port on the new MacBook, we had to be sure it was the most advanced and most versatile port possible. The new USB-C port concentrates virtually everything you need in one place. This amazing port provides charging, speedy data transfer and video output in a small, reversible design that is one-third the size of a USB 3 port
The MacBook has been designed from the ground up to work efficiently in utter silence. It uses the all-new Intel Kaby Lake processor that runs on just 5W of power, made even more efficient by optimizations throughout OS X. Together the processor and OS X sip so little energy that the system generates very little heat, so no fan is required to cool the computer. That means when your MacBook is working, you won’t hear a thing. The motherboard on which the processor sits has been completely redesigned to pack all the capability you expect in a Mac into as little space as possible.
The MacBook uses new seventh-generation Intel Core m3, i5, and i7 processors with faster SSDs and significantly faster graphics. It also has up to 16GB of memory at 1 866 MHz, making it more agile and more responsive.
We know that people rely on Apple's most compact laptops for a full-day battery life. That cannot be done with the traditional rectangular batteries. That's why we've developed our own unique battery technology that uses every bit of available space, up to the last millimetre. The result is a terraced, contoured design that fits perfectly into the incredibly slim MacBook. It does not look like anything you have seen before. Because of a more economical processor and an improved chemical solution for the battery, we've been able to prolong the battery life with another hour.
