Asphalt wasteland

Raw noir gangster with the smell of blood and gasoline

Beauregard, aka Bug, is a good citizen, settled with his wife and children in a small American town, where he owns a garage and tries to make an honest living. But the pitfalls of racism and poverty are lurking around every corner, business is not exactly booming and repayments need to be sent on time. Add to that a phone call from the nursing home where his mother lives, regarding irregularities in the payments for her stay, and Bug has to brush up on the dark past he's sworn off.

There is still no one to match him behind the wheel, and he has gasoline in his blood, just like his father, a criminal who has long since disappeared in a cloud of dust. When the offer to drive a car during a jewellery store break-in comes up, it seems like a job tailor-made for Bug. But there's a catch. The guys who invited him to the event aren't exactly the sharpest knives in the drawer. And this whole job could go horribly wrong...

A perfectly written gritty award-winning novel from a new star of the American crime genre!
