Autumn Crimes from the Queen of Detectives: Agatha Christie in Her Most Thrilling Season
During misty mornings and still-warm evenings, in grand manors and on remote farms, in city streets, on the beach, or deep in the woods – the autumn season in Agatha Christie's short stories also provides the perfect setting for thrilling tales. Whether it's Hercule Poirot, Miss Marple, the mysterious Mr. Quin, or Tommy and Tuppence trying to unravel them, they once again offer a diverse mix of cleverly devised plots and even cleverer—and thus more unexpected—dénouements, crafted by the writer who is, not by chance, known as the Queen of Crime.
Agatha Christie
British writer Agatha Christie is—undoubtedly and rightfully—one of the legends of detective fiction. Her life has been described and captured in numerous books (as well as her own autobiography from 1977), and pivotal moments from her life have become the subject of films. The author's extensive bibliography—comprising almost 300 works including stage and radio plays, romantic novels, a collection of poetry, and a set of poems and short stories for children—is documented in several encyclopaedias (which include, among other things, lists and character profiles, as well as film, television, and theatre adaptations). The secrets of her creative process have most recently been revealed in detail in *Agatha Christie's Secret Notebooks*, published in 2009, and *Agatha Christie's Murder in the Making* (2011), two books by John Curran, who meticulously studied 73 volumes of the author's handwritten notes. All of Agatha Christie's detective novels continue to be republished worldwide, and their intelligent, precisely crafted, and, not least, thrilling stories still captivate millions of readers today.
