Ernst Weiss: Jarmila
About passionate love and its tragic end. A novella of "fire, sparks or blood, tears and screams" by Brno native Ernst WeissThe narrator in Weiss's story meets a young watchmaker and street vendor of mechanical birds, Bedřich, by chance during his business trip to Prague. He confides his life story to him. He tells of his passionate love for Jarmila, the young wife of a plump old farmer and feather merchant. The tragic outcome of the love affair then inevitably foreshadows the end of Bedřich himself.
