Going on a mission as a surgeon with Doctors Without Borders doesn't just mean putting prolapsed intestines back into abdomens. Despite the daily thunder of gunfire, the ever-present threat of cholera, operating on severely wounded children, and a lack of sleep, Tomáš Šebek tries to observe the ordinary life hidden beneath this veil of war during his mission in Yemen. What is life like for Muslim female doctors? What human stories are hidden behind the faces of the patients, and what do our names reveal about us? Tomáš Šebek describes all this in his latest book from the site of the world's largest current humanitarian catastrophe, yet he does so with a sense of humour and hyperbole.
