Masters of the Word - Invisible

Czech psychological novel Invisible depicting family relationships and small-town morality

One of the important novels by the leading author of psychological prose of the 1930s and 1940s, Jaroslav Havlíček. This book from 1937 continues to fascinate readers even today. This is the story of a young, selfish and calculating man who uses a diary to describe his life journey in a small town at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. A man's fate is bent by the figure of the Invisible One. The destruction of his family, which is afflicted by a curse and hereditary madness, is slowly coming to an end.

The Masters of the Word edition is full of literary treasures. Our best acting voices, who are so close to us, talk about their favourite books and important literary works that have reached them, influenced them and to which they may even like to return. Each month, you can look forward to new stories in the Masters of the Word Edition, uniquely performed by our masters of the spoken word, and delight your heart.

Jaroslav Havlicek

Czech author, one of the most important representatives of domestic psychological prose. Jaroslav Havlicek graduated from the Czech Technical University in Prague and fought in the First World War. He eventually died as a result of physical exhaustion and meningitis. His work is set in a small town at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries and depicts human fate and degeneration. Most naturalistically, he describes the mental states of disturbed people and other extreme situations. Several films have been made based on his novels. For example, the Kerosene Lamps, or the Curse of the House of Hajn.

After he returned to Prague, he anchored in today's Švandovo Theatre. He can be seen regularly on TV screens, mostly in fairy tales and TV productions. His most important role is also, according to his words, the film MÁG, where he plays the poet K. H. Macha. He is one of the most popular personalities in dubbing.
