Rewrite (local) history
No history is small! Michal Stehlík and Martin Groman reveal the transformations of landscapes, memory, and people through original stories from regional history.
Unexpected differences and similarities can be found between the various corners of Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia. Connecting 'big' history with the history of specific towns and regions reveals contexts that often remain hidden. The authors of the successful series 'Rewrite History' will take you on a journey through both well-known and forgotten places in the Czech Republic, showing how they have changed over time – not only the landscape, but also memory, stories, and people. You will learn about the fates of forgotten figures before 1918, noble families, the changes after 1945, and what factors influenced the economic development of the regions. History no longer appears as just a sequence of events, but as a living story that is constantly evolving.
Michal Stehlík
Michal Stehlík (born 1976) is a historian specialising in Slovak studies. He started with the topic of Czech-Slovak relations, moved on to the twists and turns of communist Czechoslovakia, and now generally ponders history. He is the author of books and exhibitions. He has been teaching at the university for two decades. He divides his world between the lecture hall and the museum – he managed the Faculty of Arts at Charles University, served on the management board of the National Museum, and is now the director of the Museum of Literature / Memorial of National Literature. He discovers the world with wonder, partly through the eyes of his eight children. Together with Martin Groman, he received the 2024 Miroslav Ivanov Award for contemporary creation and popularisation of non-fiction literature for their podcast, a series of public lectures, and the publication of three books from the 'Rewrite History' series.
