The God with Dancing Mouth

If you enjoy stories of perilous expeditions to exotic lands where adventurers are threatened not just by treacherous natives, ferocious beasts, and the elements, but also by dark magic and demonic monsters, then these three captivating short stories by Otomar Dvořák are just for you!

In the first, we visit the South American Cordilleras in the 1970s, to the volcanic landscape near Lake Lakaru. Here, a young Czech scientist searching for his mysteriously vanished professor becomes a pawn in a battle between the American CIA, the local military junta, partisans, members of the proud Mapuche tribe – and, above all, reanimated beings from ancient Indian myths.

In the second story, we return to the Second World War. A group of American soldiers, whose ship was sunk by a Japanese air raid, find themselves shipwrecked on the desolate coast of a Polynesian island, only to discover a fate far more terrifying than 'mere' death in combat awaits them. The sea has washed these poor castaways ashore near the dwelling of a feared shark deity! And for the third story, we journey to the recent past on a Caribbean islet, where the natives try to appease the 'god with the dancing mouth' through the cult of voodoo, so that he stops throwing corpses at them from the sky.
