The Strnad effect

The Strnad Effect audiobook, written by Jan Kotouč, narrated by Kajetán Písařovic, directed by Helena Rytířová. Matěj Strnad was living a relatively happy, ordinary life. He might have wanted to see his son from his first marriage more often, he would have liked a better job, and he definitely wanted to improve his love life, but he was actually content. But then strange alien portals started appearing all over the Earth. They emitted a radiation that was slowly killing off humanity. Matěj would have perceived this catastrophe with the same horrified helplessness as the rest of the world, but one such portal happened to appear right in front of him. Everyone around Matěj died. He woke up in hospital with a piece of alien technology in his body and the ability to close the portals. But strange chrome monsters start jumping out of the portals, their only mission being to kill Matěj. Matěj Strnad, a warehouse worker from Most, escorted by the Czech Army, must now close the portals and save humanity. Matěj calls it a “bizarre ability” he never asked for. The rest of the world calls it… …the Strnad Effect JAN KOTOUČ A stalwart of the Czech literary scene, focusing mainly on the military sci-fi and space opera genres. His first work was the short story Too Close an Encounter, which, in a revised version, became part of the Hirano Sector novel cycle, currently comprising eight books. The author’s other cycle, Czech Lands, belongs to the alternative history genre. Kotouč has also written the four-part military sci-fi series Central Empire, contributed to the Agent JFK series, and published numerous short stories in various anthologies. For the two-part Tristan Civil War, he received the Aeronautilus Award and the Encouragement Award in 2012. KAJETÁN PÍSAŘOVIC After studying at the Janáček Conservatory in Ostrava, Kajetán Písařovic performed on many theatre stages across the country, including the Petr Bezruč Theatre, Těšín Theatre, Komedie Theatre, Theatre on the Balustrade, Minor Theatre, Švanda Theatre, the Činoherní studio Ústí nad Labem, and Venuše ve Švehlovce. He has appeared on television in the films Jan Hus and Zádušní oběť, and in the series Až po uši and Pustina. He collaborates with Audiotéka and Czech Radio, among others.
