Onimusha: Way of the Sword will draw you into a dark and bloody story set in the Edo period in Kyoto, Japan. Prepare for intense sword fights where every blow is a matter of life and death. Each mission is packed with mystery, danger, and suspense.
As a samurai, you embark on a journey of vengeance and discovery. Your only ally is the Oni Gauntlet, a mystical artefact that grants you superhuman strength. With it, you can stand against creatures from the underworld known as the Genma, who threaten not only you but the very course of history itself.
Onimusha is not just about combat; it is also a spiritual quest. Where does true strength lie? In wrath, courage, or inner peace? You will find the answer to this question at the end of a journey that will take you through a world of demons, intrigue, and Japanese mysticism.
SAMURAI
Miyamoto Musashi is the main protagonist of Onimusha: Way of the Sword Xbox Series X|S. A young, determined, and fiery samurai, he arrives in Kyoto with a single goal: to prove he is second to none in the art of swordsmanship. However, his path to glory soon takes an unexpected turn, filled with dark trials, supernatural forces, and internal dilemmas. Capcom brought this character to life not only through the story and game mechanics but also visually. Musashi's face was inspired by the legendary Japanese actor Toshiro Mifune, an icon of the samurai film genre. This makes Musashi not just a relentless warrior, but also a tribute to the classic Japanese hero, whose strength is as powerful as his honour.
DEMONS
The Genma are terrifying demons from the depths of hell, brought into the world of the living by a dark miasma shrouding Kyoto. This otherworldly evil has torn the boundary between life and death, allowing demons to flood the streets of the once-peaceful city. Their presence has brought only pain and fear; massacres, attacks, and constant threats have turned Kyoto into a nightmare landscape. Among these beasts, the Hitotsume-gasa stand out—one-eyed demons who attack in packs with weapons in hand and without mercy. Whether they're brandishing swords, firing arrows, or hiding behind shields, their sole purpose is to kill and devour all living things. They are driven only by primitive instincts, with no emotions, no goal, except the desire to spread death.
GAUNTLET
The action in Onimusha: Way of the Sword Xbox Series X|S revolves around Musashi and his mysterious Oni Gauntlet, an artefact that grants him superhuman strength and makes him a terror to the demonic Genma. The gauntlet is a tool of destruction, but also a key to a deeper understanding of the dark force that is sweeping over the world of men. It allows him to absorb the souls of defeated enemies, which not only strengthens Musashi's abilities but also reveals something far more sinister. With each soul absorbed, a mysterious voice seems to be released from the gauntlet—whispering, urgent, perhaps even warning. Who or what is speaking to him? Is it a guide, a curse, or perhaps the voice of the Oni itself? This question weaves its way through the entire game.
KYOTO
The scenery in Onimusha: Way of the Sword Xbox Series X|S plays a key role in building the game's atmosphere. The story takes place in historic Kyoto, a city renowned for its magnificent shrines and temples, of which the iconic Kiyomizu-dera is one of the visual and symbolic highlights. In the game, however, this spiritual centre of Japan has been transformed into a dark and terrifying place, infested with a miasma that, like a poison, corrodes not only the streets and buildings but also human souls. Famous landmarks turn to ruins, sacred spaces are desecrated, and an unsettling aura emanates from the natural beauty. Every step through the streets of Kyoto is accompanied by a chilling uncertainty; a Genma, or something even worse, could be lurking around the corner. The contrast between the spiritual purity of traditional Japan and its sudden fall into darkness creates a powerful and visually striking setting.
