William Wilkie Collins (8 January 1824 – 23 September 1889) was an English novelist, short-story writer and playwright. Although his work has been overshadowed by that of his more famous friend, Charles Dickens, Wilkie Collins is a very popular author, a fact supported by the increased interest in his works from television and film producers. After a break of many years, his books are once again filling bookshop shelves.
The novel 'No Name', condemned by Victorian critics as immoral, is today considered a work of extraordinary social insight, showing William Wilkie Collins at the peak of his literary powers. It is the story of two sisters, Magdalen and Norah, who discover after the death of their beloved parents that their parents were not married at the time of their birth. Disinherited and driven from their home, they must fend for themselves and either accept their unfortunate fate or decide to reclaim their fortune by any means necessary.
This romantic story has an interesting plot that will keep you captivated from beginning to end.
The book was also adapted for radio and broadcast on BBC Radio 4 in six episodes in 1989 – repeated due to its great success in 2013, 2019 and September 2021.
