The Fourth Mandel of Sonnets
Perhaps it is a coincidence that the Fourth mandel of Milona Čepelka's sonnets is published at a time when fruit trees are losing their beauty. But do coincidences even exist? And isn't it the case that when something charming leaves, another enters the scene?
Perhaps a more appropriate simile would be one that puts flowers on trees and poems together: many a "modern" person would say that both are unnecessary. Why not skip the flowers and go straight to the fruit? And why write and read poems that nobody eats? Yes, from a practical point of view, such a sage is right.
But without poetry and without cherry blossoms the world would be a poorer place. However, let us not imagine the world as a media buzz or shouts into the darkness. The poet does not shout into the darkness - and that is why he smells of fruit. Endowed with longevity himself, he does not exalt himself over the platypus that cherishes its short-lived secret in the bushes. Although educated, he understood, like the peasants of old who had not received an education, that nature and life are eternal; because they're not a line, they're an infinite cycle.
Let us read, think and rejoice in "useless things" like flowering trees and poems. Even when the cherry blossoms fade and the poems fade, the beautiful remains within us - as a harbinger of more charms to come. But only to those who can appreciate them, who can perceive them... or even weave them into the sacred form of a sonnet as Miloň Čepelka can.
