Childhood infections

This monograph covers infections of all systems in children. It deals with common, well-known infections as well as rarer or imported ones. Emphasis is placed on differential diagnosis and early diagnosis of certain life-threatening infectious diseases in the field. The book is divided into chapters dealing with infections of individual systems in children, their occurrence, aetiology, epidemiology, pathogenesis, clinical picture, diagnosis, differential diagnosis, treatment and prevention. These include CNS infections, eye infections, lymphatic node infections, upper and lower respiratory tract infections, cardiac infections, skin and exanthematous infections, liver infections, intestinal infections, infectious diseases of the bones and joints, congenital infections, parasitic infections, imported infections, HIV in children, anti-rabies prophylaxis, issues of travelling abroad with children and vaccination.

The book, equipped with extensive photo documentation, serves as a basic guide to the field of childhood infections, their diagnosis, differential diagnosis and treatment, for both undergraduate and postgraduate studies.
The authors of the book are doctors and, at the same time, teachers from medical faculties at the Clinic of Infectious, Tropical and Parasitic Diseases of the Bulovka University Hospital, the Královské Vinohrady University Hospital, the Na Homolce Hospital and the Motol University Hospital.

The book is intended primarily for paediatricians in the field, but it can also help paediatricians or infectious disease specialists in inpatient care, or medical students preparing for an examination in infectious diseases, as well as other healthcare professionals interested in the subject.
