Intel Core i5-8400
Discontinued
Intel Core i5-8400
Intel launches the 8th generation Intel Core processors, this time branded with the label Coffee Lake. Basically, it is a very similar architecture to the previous successful Kaby Lake series. However, Intel has worked on various optimisations, resulting in an Intel Core i5-8400K processor that delivers real-world performance while maintaining low energy consumption.
Key features of the Intel Core i5-8400 processor
- Six-core i5 processor with Coffee Lake architecture
- The highest clocked processor in Intel's history - up to 4GHz
- Performance increases in the order of tens of percent compared to the Kaby Lake range
- Compatible exclusively with Intel's new Z370 chipset generation
- Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 630 graphics card
- Boxed cooler is included
Improved manufacturing technology
The Coffee Lake architecture is once again based on a 14nm production process. At first, the demanding manufacturing process is handled by Intel with utterly stunning perfection, offering the Intel Core i5-8400 processor a superb price / performance ratio. For the first time ever, the core i5 includes six powerful cores. The increase in the cores is also accompanied by higher working frequencies, which moves up to the 4GHz limit in turbo mode.
For the first time, the Intel Core i5 with six cores
Access to data is greatly facilitated by a fast 9MB L3 cache that gives the cores enough time to instantly respond to all applications. The Intel Core i5-8400 processor is guaranteed to serve as a reliable building block for gamers. However, performance is literally on hand, so you can even plunge into the world of virtual reality or into demanding video encoding.
Compatibility and motherboards
The Intel Coffee Lake platform contains quite a few changes to the previous generation of processors, so Intel has decided to take a rather unusual step. Although this processor uses the well-known socket 1151, it will require a new motherboard. Specifically, a model with the Intel Z370 chipset.
