After a plane crash, four young British men are stranded in the Brazilian jungle: Fred, an avid reader of travelogues, the perpetually unloaded Con with a photographic memory, Lila, a keen naturalist, and her sleepy brother Max. The first days spent in the green hell confirm that neither family nor school have prepared them sufficiently for life far from civilisation. Nevertheless, with all their strength and at the cost of a series of painful mistakes, they gradually acquire drinking water and meagre food, even fire and shelter. One day, however, their refuge is burnt down and they are forced to sail down the river on a self-built raft to a mysterious place that someone has marked on a map they have found. But what awaits the little explorers at the end of their dangerous journey will far exceed even their wildest imaginations.

The award-winning children's book was written by the author after she herself experienced many of the adventures described in the Amazon.
