An unusual fascination with corpses

Audiobook An Unconventional Interest in Corpses by Ann Granger, translated by Petra Procházková. Read by Kristýna Skružná and Filip Jančík, directed by Miloš Vrána. Lizzie Martin #1 In 1864, Lizzie Martin accepts a position as a companion to a wealthy widow who owns properties in the slums. Lizzie is intrigued to discover that her predecessor disappeared, presumably having eloped with an unknown man. But when a body is found in the rubble of recently demolished houses in a part of the slums directly adjacent to the new, prestigious St Pancras station, Lizzie begins to wonder what really happened to the girl. She reconnects with a childhood friend, now Police Inspector Benjamin Ross, and with his help, begins to investigate the case. Lizzie risks her life, but she is determined to uncover the truth about the death of the girl whose fate seems to be intertwined with her own… ANN GRANGER Patricia Ann Granger was born in 1939 in Portsmouth, England, where she also attended a girls' grammar school. She continued her studies at the University of London, where she studied modern philology (German and French), which enabled her to teach English in France for a year. She then started working at the British Embassy in Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia and Austria. She married a colleague from the diplomatic service and went with him to Zambia and Germany. She later returned to England permanently with her two children. Her first books were historical novels, which she wrote under the pseudonym Ann Hulme. After returning to Great Britain, she published her first detective story, Say It with Poison, in 1991, which is the first in her most successful detective series. Ann Granger currently has around twenty detective stories and more than ten historical novels to her name, which have been translated into many languages. For example, in Germany in 2004, she won the prestigious literary award 'Deutsche Phantastik Preis' for the best collection of short stories.
