Birthday story of a dog and a cat
The cake is ready, let the adventure begin!
THE DOG AND THE CAT CELEBRATE A BIRTHDAY
In this story, the Dog and the Cat decide to celebrate not only their own birthdays, but also Mr Beaver’s, which means it’s time for some big preparations. They weave a cake, decorate the little house, and prepare refreshments, doing everything their own special way.
You’ll also learn how they lived at night, how they did the beaver dance, and how they rolled barrels down the hill. And as if that wasn't enough, they go for a bike ride and cause Mr Beaver a whole lot of trouble!
But what would a celebration be without a surprise… You see, dear children, the Dog and the Cat get you not just lots of toys for your birthday, but also a very old chest. Inside, they find a mysterious map that they must decipher, setting them off on an adventurous journey to find a real treasure. I won’t tell you whether they manage to read the map and find the treasure, but believe me, they’ll work up quite a sweat doing it!

Vlasta Hurtíková
Vlasta Hurtíková (*1971) is an author of children’s books. She was the first in our country to publish a Czech fairytale book with pictograms, Kocourek Matýsek (Matýsek the Cat) (2013), intended for children with special educational needs who have difficulty understanding written and spoken language. The author had been writing stories with pictograms for her autistic son since he was two years old. Thanks to these specific books with symbols and pictures, her son learned to speak and read. That is why she decided to publish one of them to help other children with the same or similar difficulties. The author has published a number of other books and also writes traditional fairytale stories. Mrs Hurtíková currently lives with her son in Hlučín and writes books full-time. She is, among other things, a passionate traveller. She travels with her son and draws inspiration for new stories from her travels. In her books, she most often describes the beauty of the Czech landscape – the home that is dearest to her heart.
