The individual episodes accumulated in my memory and were refined over many years. They emerged on the periphery of my professional research as a historian in the reading rooms of archives and libraries, where I stumbled upon their fragments while researching other topics.

Dušan Uhlíř
(* 1938) Professor emeritus of history and recipient of several awards for non-fiction, including the Egon Erwin Kisch Prize for lifetime achievement. He previously worked at the Historical Institute of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences in Prague, directed the Museum in Slavkov and the Brno City Museum, and lectured at the Silesian University in Opava and Masaryk University in Brno. Among other works, he is the author of the books Černý den na Bílé hoře (Black Day on White Mountain), Moravský pitaval (Moravian Pitaval), Čas kongresů a tajných společností (The Time of Congresses and Secret Societies), and Slunce nad Slavkovem (The Sun over Austerlitz). He has also collaborated with Czech Television and Radio on the popularisation of history.
