He was born in Kabul to a diplomat. After the Soviet invasion, he emigrated with his parents to the USA in 1980, where he studied medicine. In 2006, he was appointed US envoy to the UN refugee agency. He lives with his wife and two children in California.   JAN MEDUNA A graduate of the DAMU, he has guest-starred on many stages, performing at the Prague City Theatres, the National Theatre, Studio Two and the Drama Club; is a member of the ensemble of the V Dlouhá Theatre and the association Veselé skoky. Film and television audiences have seen him in the films Tobruk (2008), Rhythm in the Heels (2008), Herbert in the Ring (2008) and the TV series First Department Cases (2014).
