We are rarely willing to admit that our existence rests on very fragile foundations. It takes very little for everything we have believed in until now to collapse like a house of cards. In a small, peaceful town, where neighbours greeted each other respectfully and exchanged forced smiles, two ten-year-old boys go missing. A hunt for the alleged perpetrator begins, and every moment the police and the neighbours have someone else in their sights. The community slowly begins to fall apart, terrifying secrets come to light, and no one can be sure of anyone else. But what really happened? The story is told by one of the missing boys, who, with his childlike innocence, guides the reader through the darkest corners of the human conscience, and gradually destroys the only remaining comfort: Something like this could never happen here. Wrong! It already has. The story is loosely inspired by real events that occurred in 2006 in the Italian town of Gravina in Puglia.

Petra Klabouchová comes from Husinec in South Bohemia, a place that has always favoured revolutionary ideas. After studying journalism and psychology at Masaryk University in Brno, she began to write. She developed her literary talent as a manager for rock bands while travelling throughout Europe and the USA. She captured these wild and loud years in her book Na plný koule. Her literary repertoire also includes the entertaining and child-friendly Upíří storky (Vampire Stories), a look into the eighties in Poslední kubánské pomeranče (The Last Cuban Oranges), an excursion into the legacy of ancient Egypt in Podvod zlatého faraona (The Golden Pharaoh's Fraud) and the psychological crime thriller Anglická zahrada (The English Garden). She gained the most significant attention with her detective novel Prameny Vltavy (Sources of the Vltava) about the evil that springs from the depths of the writer's native region. She also tells of a crime shrouded in decades of silence in her book U severní zdi (At the North Wall).
