Czechoslovakia still exists in the second half of the 1990s, The dying Soviet Union is rocked by civil war, the exes get to work, aging StB agents, Retired elite killers stop hoeing their gardens and the action begins, that can't end with anything but a bangin' finale, where the lives and souls of all involved are at stake. And the grey continues to seep into our world...

Dalibor Vácha

He studied history and English language in České Budějovice. At first, he wrote science fiction and fantasy in a drawer, but eventually he moved on to specialist texts about the Czechoslovak legions. The result was a trio of monographs in Epoch: Brotherhood (2015), Islands in the Storm (2016) and The Heart So Rich in Life (2017), all linked to the issue of the first Czechoslovak resistance. In 2014, he published the novel Red and White, How Else but About the Legions, for which he received the Book Club Literary Award, followed by another legionary novel, The Road (2016), and a pair of second war novels: Hranice (2015) and Is Prague on Fire? (2017).

But he never stopped engaging with literary fiction, not only as a reader of Frank Herbert, Stephen King, P. K. Dick, Terry Pratchett and others (not to mention thousands of comics). He has also returned to writing fiction, his greatest achievement being winning the 2014 Daedalus with the title story of that collection. His stories were also among the best in 2015-2017. He often and happily makes references to history in his texts. He fulfilled his dream by publishing the somewhat experimental post-apocalyptic novel Nowhere (2016) and is currently working on a number of projects, scientific (still those legions! ), mainstream (war novel) and fantasy.
