It's like heaven, but different
New meetings with loners from Bohemia and Moravia
Loners do not live only in Sumava. Aleš Palán, the author of the bestselling book Rather Go Wild, brings us encounters with other solitaries living away from civilization. For a year and a half he followed them to remote areas from Chodsko to the White Carpathians, from the Jizera Mountains to the Beskydy Mountains.
In the book Like in Heaven, But Otherwise, we find an interview with a woman who has been living in a secluded mountain village a few kilometres from the Slovak border for practically her whole life. We meet a guy who bought an old military car twenty years ago and has been hiding in it ever since among the South Bohemian ponds. We even get a glimpse into the hermitage of the only current hermit, Franciscan Brother Angel.
The meeting with Czech and Moravian loners again brings distinct attitudes, unique life stories and a good dose of natural mysticism. Compared to the book Better to go mad in the wilderness, there is also an unexpected portion of humour. Johana Pošová took care of the photographic accompaniment of the book As in Heaven, but Otherwise.
