Kalmann is in trouble. Or so it would seem, why else would he be sitting in FBI headquarters in Washington. He really just wanted to visit his American father. But he lets him down, and before Kalmann knows it, he is back on the plane heading back to frozen and snow-covered Iceland. But there is no peace and quiet waiting for him in the far north either. A murder has been committed, and the trail leads all the way to America and involves nothing less (and more telling) than the Cold War. And who is supposed to solve this explosive case? None other than Kalmann, the famous sheriff of Raufarhöfen.
Readers had the opportunity to get to know the peculiar, and a little bit shot, self-proclaimed sheriff from a village on the northernmost tip of Iceland, Kalmann Óðinsson, in the black-humoured novel Kalmann. As it turns out, his story is far from over. The author has other plans for this polar fox and shark hunter...

Journalist and writer Joachim B. Schmidt (*1981) grew up as the son of a farmer in the Swiss canton of Graubünden, from where he moved to Iceland, and has lived with his family in Reykjavik since 2007. He is the author of several novels and short stories, runs a travel blog and works as a tourist guide in Iceland. His novel Kalmann (PROSTOR 2023) was a great success among readers and received many important awards, e.g. German Crime Cologne Award. Schmidt's previous prose works are also set in Iceland and spare no tension and black humour: At the Shore (In Küstennähe, 2013), At the Table Sits a Soldier (Am Tisch sitzt ein Soldat, 2014) and Whisper of the Moss (Moosflüstern, 2017). In 2022, he published the novel Tell, which he conceived as a modern take on the myth of the Swiss folk hero Willem Tell. Last year he followed up his successful novel Kalmann with the new Kalmann and the Sleeping Mountain. www.joachimschmidt. ch
