Monastery madrigal

The satire The Monastery Madrigal tells the story of an estate where everyone is scheming to keep their village from becoming a city

Somewhere under the mountains near the border of the Bohemian Kingdom there is a monastery with the manor, God and the general chapter in Selbro abandoned. It is administered by lazy monks and inhabited by sinful subjects. Time passes quietly and without ambition when a royal charter arrives in the scriptorium of the Monastery, according to which one of the villages is to be raised to the status of a town. But there is a problem - which village should it be? The subjects begin to plot to avoid this obligation. But that doesn't stop them from continuing to live their lives, which are mainly centred on fun in the shed and amorous trysts under the watchful eye of observant neighbours. When the situation becomes unbearable, the royal office and the monks, forced by circumstances, begin to act.
