Murders in the Monastery
A historical thriller set in a monastery
It is Christmas Eve, 1176. Brother Maurice, a monk at Fairmore Abbey, awaits the bell for the night prayer. But the bell does not ring. Cursing the laziness of his fellow brother Cuthbert, Maurice goes to look for him—and finds him brutally murdered in the darkness.
From London, the King's Justice, Aelred Barling, and his messenger, Hugo Stanton, are sent to the remote monastery amidst the Yorkshire moors to investigate this terrible crime. They quickly discover that the monastery is far from a paradise of peaceful spiritual contemplation. It is seething with bitter hatred, rivalry, and resentment. But no sooner have Barling and Stanton arrived than the killer strikes again—and not for the last time.
When Barling uncovers the pattern by which these atrocities are being committed, it becomes clear that the killing spree is far from over. Everyone, including the investigators, now fears for their lives. Can Barling and Stanton unmask the culprit before more blood is shed?
