New Vršovice

This popular educational publication deals with the history, conditions of its creation, as well as the plans and urban concept of this unique urban district. You will read about architecture, architects, builders, artists, and the construction of this site. You will learn all about the life, important personalities and curiosities of the somewhat neglected part of Prague 10 from the end of the nineteenth century to the present day.

The book is supplemented by a large amount of information that has never been published before, accompanied by a rich collection of historical and contemporary photographs, copies of authentic plans and urban-architectural visions – often unrealised and practically unknown to the public.

The text of the book is devoted to the architecture, buildings and architects of Nové Vršovice from the pre-war period, characterised mainly by cultivated constructivism.
The post-war period follows, with the reverberation of pre-war tendencies, but in a contemporary new form (a number of important interwar architects participated in this phase). After a short period of „ sorely“, which left here several relatively sophisticated and interesting achievements, is followed by an important stage in the architectural development of Nové Vršovice - the so-called. “ the industrialization of the construction industry“ in the '50s and '60s.

This phase left a unique residential complex in Prague with a number of interesting realizations, designed mostly by contemporary prominent architects. The text also focuses on architectural achievements of the last decades through the realization of „ estate“ character (Vlasta housing estate and others), to several more or less successful contemporary realisations.
