The interests of the Empire are more important than human life
The Omega squads work in the shadows of the Central Empire. They are not bound by laws or rules and answer only to the Emperor. They are a special unit of saboteurs, scouts, and assassins. Their bodies are enhanced with illegal genetic modifications that have turned them into super-soldiers but have also significantly shortened their lifespans.
Hila Ebanová has never known another life. As a slum child on the planet Colbran, she had to choose between a slow death from an incurable disease or service in the Omegas. For years she lived with her unit, fighting for one another.
But the Omega squads have been betrayed, and the Empire has no choice but to sweep their existence under the carpet. While a powerful clique demands the abolition of the Omegas, Hila is sent on what might be her last mission. She has always been cynically aware that the interests of the Empire are not the same as the interests of the people within it, but now she is discovering that the fate of the Omegas is intertwined with the fate of the entire Central Empire.
Jan Kotouč
Jan Kotouč (*1987) focuses on the subgenres of military sci-fi and space opera, with most of his work revolving around conflicts in the distant future in the Hirano sector. He published his first standalone book, Pokračování diplomacie (2009), with Klub Julese Verna, and his next novel, Tristanská občanská válka, is due to be published by the same publisher in two parts during 2011. He also runs creative writing courses, gives lectures at a number of events, and teaches at university. In certain circles, they call him Johnak.
