The third dark criminal case for the brilliant Professor Hans Rekke and the distinctive police officer Micaela Vargas. At the end of the 1980s, Dag and Pompe set off on a road trip from Sweden to the south. In Santander, Spain, they met Sandra, a local waitress, who was very intrigued by the two intellectually-minded young men. A few days later, Sandra was found brutally beaten to death, with strange cuts on her shoulder. The perpetrator of the crime was never found. Twenty years later, Rekke is visited by Rafael Corales, the head of the team that investigated Sandra's case. He is convinced that the same murders have also occurred in Denmark. And in Finland. The victims have similar marks on their bodies. It seems that someone is numbering them…
David Lagercrantz (born 4 September 1962) is a Swedish journalist and author. He studied religion and philosophy at university, then completed a journalism course in Gothenburg. His first journalistic job was for the Volvo car company's magazine, after which he moved to the tabloid newspaper Expressen, where he worked as a crime reporter covering cases from the late eighties and early nineties. His first book was a biography of the Swedish mountaineer Göran Kropp, followed by biographies of the inventor Håkan Lans, Zlatan Ibrahimović, and others. He won the prestigious Swedish August Prize for the book "I Am Zlatan Ibrahimović." He also wrote the fourth instalment of the Millennium series, titled The Girl in the Spider's Web. The author of the first three volumes was the writer Stieg Larsson, who died prematurely, so David Lagercrantz brilliantly took over the completion of the series.
