River of Gods I. - A Novel from Ancient Egypt

Wilbur Smith's Historical Novel River God I - A Novel of Ancient Egypt

The unprecedented splendour of ancient Egypt, a land of pharaohs built on gold and perishing from the greedy intrigues of the powerful, is brought to life by the colourful narration of an exceptionally talented slave, Taita. It was he who was the tutor of the vizier's daughter, Lostris, later the wife of Pharaoh Mamose VIII. The beautiful Lostris married according to her father's wishes, even though she loved another man.

When her son was born, only Taita knew the truth: the boy, Memon, was not the Pharaoh's son, but the son of Tanus, the commander of the royal armies. Time passed. The colourful events were shattered by the clamour of war: the Hyksos tribe attacked Egypt with new weapons and advanced unstoppably, the number of fallen growing rapidly. How will the Egyptian nation save itself? Their journey down the Nile on galleys heads south to safety… You can find the further fate of the heroes in the book River God II – The Seventh Scroll.
