Salt of the sea
The author of the worldwide bestseller In Shades of Grey brings to light one of the worst yet almost unknown maritime disasters
The winter of 1945. Four young people. Four secrets.
As the Second World War draws to a close near East Prussia, thousands of refugees have embarked on a pilgrimage to freedom, and most of them have something to hide. Among them were Joana, Emilia and Florian, whose paths crossed on a ship that promised salvation. Her name was Wilhelm Gustloff. They came from somewhere else, but they are all driven and slowly driven by misfortune, lies and... war. When freedom seems within reach, tragedy strikes. At that point, it doesn't matter what country or culture you are from or what your social status is. All 10,000 people on board are fighting for one thing: They want to survive.
The author of In Grey Tones returns to the Second World War with her new novel, which depicts one of the worst - yet almost unknown - tragedies of the war.
