The summer heat has arrived and crayfish season is just around the corner. August Strindberg has a child and is enjoying parenthood with Maria Martinsson. But life in the peaceful community is shaken to its foundations after the discovery of an elderly couple who have been poisoned. They lived in the village for fifty years and everyone loved them. Who would wish them dead? The investigation falls to Maria, but her team is simmering under the surface. What's her colleague Ray-Ray hiding? The case turns out to have an even darker side than anyone imagined.

The contrasts work well in Kristina Ohlsson's books - the beauty of the setting and characters on the one hand, and the horrific crimes behind very dark family secrets on the other. Also, there is always something going on in the relationships between the characters that moves the plot forward. In a nutshell: you never get bored.
