Two sisters, Rose and Bel Enright, enrol at the prestigious Odell boarding school in New England, which could be the best thing to ever happen to them. But each sister – although they are twins – is completely different, and the school sparks an entirely unexpected rivalry between them.
Odell also has its dark side: children from wealthy families left unchecked and without rules; traditions and rituals with consequences more serious than they might at first seem; and desires and secret wishes that can lead to nothing but tragedy.
Sarah Donovan is the wife of an ambitious teacher, and for her too, Odell could be the best thing that has happened to her family. But how well does she really know her husband? Is he a truly loving father or just a cunning liar? And when a murder occurs on one dark night, who is guilty, who knows the truth, and who was involved from the very beginning?
Was it one quiet girl? Because the murderer isn't always the one you'd most expect…
After studying law at Harvard and Stanford, Michele Campbell worked as a federal prosecutor in New York City, where she specialised in international organised crime and gang cases. After a time, she decided to end her successful career in the global metropolis and moved with her husband and two children to an idyllic university town in New England, which is very similar to Belle River from her novel It's Always the Husband. She currently teaches criminal and constitutional law and writes books. She has five to her name so far: It's Always the Husband, She Was the Quiet One, A Stranger on the Beach, The Woman Who Knew Too Much, and The Cat and Mouse Game, with which she has won the hearts of readers on both sides of the Atlantic. She has many good friends, a few enemies, and only one husband who, as far as she knows, has never tried to kill her. www.michelecampbellbooks.com
